Arsenal didn't allow 'extraordinary' William Saliba a mistake - Thierry Henry
Arsenal defender William Saliba has enjoyed a superb season out on loan at Marseille in France and is pushing for a more regular pace at The Emirates.
The 21-year-old has been an almost ever-present for the Ligue 1 side this season with 34 appearances and many believe that he should be involved in Mikel Arteta’s senior setup.
One of those is Thierry Henry, a Gunners legend, who wants to see the Frenchman finally get the chance he has been waiting for in North London.
“They didn’t even let him make a mistake,” Henry said on Amazon Prime. “He left before an error.
“He didn’t even have the chance to compete for his place. What he is doing here is extraordinary. He was rewarded with a selection for the France team.
“Now he belongs to Arsenal, I don’t know where he will end up. We have seen that it was a little difficult for him to express himself on the subject.
“What I know is that he could have been in the Arsenal group. I am not Mikel Arteta, but I found it difficult for him. Anyway, he responded well and that’s the most important thing.”
Now is the time
Arsenal have enjoyed a great season and look destined to reach the Champions League qualification places even with Saliba out on loan.
But from next season, they have to get him back at The Emirates and get him involved alongside Ben White at the heart of the defence.
If he is being selected for the French national team, he is clearly a sensational talent and it is baffling as to why he was sent out on loan this season in the first place.
Arteta has kind of been proved right with the great season the Gunners have had but with the added games of Europe to come next season, it would be a foolish move to either sell him or send him out again when he has already proved he’s ready to go.
The extra depth required to play more games is already contracted to Arsenal but now we have to wait and see if the boss is clever enough to use it.
In other Arsenal news, Arteta might have identified his Nuno Tavares replacement who is currently thriving in Italy.
