Gabriel Martinelli in talks with Arsenal to extend contract
Gabriel Martinelli is in talks with Arsenal over extending his contract and wants to stay at the club, he has confirmed.
The Arsenal star had a coming-of-age performance in the Gunners’ 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, scoring and assisting one.
Martinelli admitted that he wants to stay at the club and talks have opened between him and Arsenal over securing a new and improved deal.
“Of course, I want to stay. We are talking. Let’s see what is going to happen,” said Martinelli as quoted by Fabrizio Romano
“But I want to stay, of course.”
Fantastic.
This is fantastic news if you are an Arsenal fan, Martinelli has played a starring role in everything good Mikel Arteta’s team has done this season.
The Brazilian has been involved in 10 goals in his last 14 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League, scintillating statistics.
Martinelli made the infamous Jurgen Klopp Liverpool side look like old-timers on Sunday afternoon, a changing of the guard in the Premier League perhaps.
The forward’s current deal signed in 2020 runs until 2024, so there is a bit of time yet for Arsenal to lock him down, nevertheless, big European clubs will be watching with interest.
Arsenal does have to option of triggering an extension to that deal, one which they’ll likely do but on Martinelli’s new and improved terms.
The Gunners and Martinelli currently sit top of the Premier League with nine matches played, a solid feat considering the disappointing end to their campaign last year.
