Arsenal signing Marquinhos is part of the 'long term process' at club - Edu

Arsenal winger Marquinhos is a part of the club’s long-term process, according to Arsenal’s technical director Edu Gaspar.

The Gunners secured the signing of the Brazilian earlier in the window and there have been discussions around how the club will plan to use the winger going forward.

However, Edu has now revealed the club’s plans for the starlet, claiming that he is a big part of the team’s future. [Fabrizio Romano]

Edu said: “We have to be careful. Marquinhos is part of long-term project, he needs to adapt and enter into this process.

“We have to be calm, I told him and his family that we’ve to project him.

“We’ll take care of Marquinhos”.

Part of the long-term future.

The Gunners have seen a change in their transfer policy in recent years, signing older veterans like David Luiz and Willian, to now focusing on young stars like Fabio Vieria and Marquinhos.

The emphasis on young players in Arteta’s project has been clear with payers like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe playing integral parts in the club’s upturn in fortunes.

Young players carry a heavy burden at the club, and there is a lot of faith in them to do well at the Emirates.

Marqiunhos joined the club from Sao Paolo after the club had to battle with Wolves to secure the 19-year-old’s signature.

The teenage winger will be looking to have a similar impact on the team as their last Brazilian teenage export, Gabriel Martinelli, has had since he moved to England.

These words of encouragement from fellow Brazilian, Edu, will be a big help for the youngster who is still adapting to a new country and a new team and will need time and support to become a success at the club.

In other Arsenal news, the club are willing to double Bukayo Saka’s wages.
