Arsenal undecided on future of 21-year-old Folarin Balogun - report

Arsenal are undecided on the future of 21-year-old striker Folarin Balogun with a potential loan in the offing, according to The Athletic.

The forward is highly thought of at Arsenal, and is expected to achieve big things at the club after impressing at youth level.

However, with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah committing to a new contract, the future of the striker in uncertain and the club are reportedly unsure on how to use Balogun.

The Athletic reported: “Arsenal are as yet undecided as to whether Balogun is better off going on loan to gain experience

“Or staying put to be used in cup competitions and as an understudy to Arteta’s first-choice centre-forward.”

To stay or to go?

Balogun is one of the hottest young prospects in the Arsenal team and is in need of game time to continue his progress and development.

The 20-year-old came through the Arsenal youth academy and impressed coaches and fans with his clinical finishing and workrate, scoring an impressive 74 goals in 102 games for Arsenal’s youth team.

This goal scoring rate of a goal every 1.3 games put himself on the map, and after a few months of transfer speculation, he signed a new contract at the club in April 2021.

He then left the club to join Middlesborough on loan and scored three goals and three assists in 21 games at the Riverside Stadium.

With Arsenal’s current striker depth, it is unlikely Balogun will get the necessary game-time needed to develop into the player that he is threatening to become.

A loan may be what is best for both the club and the player.
