Arsenal willing to double Bukayo Saka's wages - report
Arsenal are now offering Bukayo Saka a new contract that would see the winger double his wages, according to the Daily Mail.
The England international is entering the final two years of his contract, and rival clubs including Manchester City are beginning to circle around the youngster.
The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel and Adrian Kajumba reported that the 20-year-old is currently on a deal worth £70,000 a week and the Gunners’ new deal would see Saka take that way beyond £100,000.
The report said: “Arsenal have offered Bukayo Saka a new long-term contract that would see him become one of the club’s best paid players.
“The England international’s current terms expire in under two years and talks over an extension have been ongoing.
“Sportsmail revealed last week that Arsenal would accelerate talks over a new deal amid growing interest from rival clubs, including Manchester City.”
New deal for Bukayo?
The reported new deal would be a wage that adequately represent Saka’s standing in the squad, and his importance to Mikel Arteta.
Saka made his Arsenal debut in 2019, coming on as a late substitute in a home win against Fulham.
He has since gone to become one of the club’s most important players, making 131 appearances in all competitions, scoring 23 goals and providing 29 assists.
He last signed a new contract in 2020, after he broke into the team and was given the famous number seven shirt.
The explosive winger is now also one of England’s most vital players, making 18 appearances for the Three Lions and playing a key role in England’s Euro 2020 run, where they lost in the final.
The wonderkid is now one of the league’s best players and his dependability has become undeniable
Securing him to a new long-term deal will be of the upmost importance to Arteta and and the Arsenal board, especially to fend off growing interest from the likes of Manchester City.
In other Arsenal news, William Saliba is reportedly close to agreeing a new contract with the club.
