Brighton aim to sign Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares on season-long loan - report
Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares has been linked with a loan move with Brighton reportedly being interested in the full-back, according to O Jogo.
The 22-year-old defender had a tumultuous debut season at Arsenal last year, with a strong start but his defensive frailties were publically on show at the end of last season.
However, the Portuguese sports newspaper has reported that Brighton have registered interest in the defender and that negotiations have begun.
The report said: “The Portuguese left-back may leave Arsenal to be Cucurella’s successor in the seagulls.
“The strong possibility of Cucurella heading to Manchester City in a deal has made the Brighton turn to Nuno Tavares.”

This could be a great move for the full-back who will need some game time to continue his development with more competition coming in.
Kieran Tierney is now back to full fitness and with the imminent arrival of Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Portugal under-21 defender will struggle to find consistent game time in the team next year.
The full-back did show promise in the early games of last season and even kept Tierney out of the team with impressive performances against Newcastle and Leicester being games where Tavares showed his quality.
However, Nuno’s form dropped dramatically after an infamous cameo in the FA Cup in the Gunner’s loss to Nottingham Forest, where the defender was taken off in the first half.
Also, after Tierney got injured last season, Mikel Arteta was clearly hesitant to bring Tavares back into the team and his shaky performance against Manchester United on 23 April, seemed to epitomise Nuno’s Arsenal career as he not only scored but also gave away a penalty in that game.
A loan to a Premier League club where he can get consistent game time and grow as a player could be what is best for him.
