Done deal: Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun joins Reims on season-long loan
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has joined Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims on a season-long loan in a bid to get more first-team experience.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Middlesborough, after joining the North Yorkshire club in the January transfer window.
It has now been confirmed by Reims via their official Twitter account on 3 August that he’s joined them on a temporary basis until next summer.
Good move for Balogun.
The loan move may have come as a shock with other clubs in England reportedly interested in acquiring Balogun’s services.
However, the decision to go and ply his trade abroad is a brave and courageous one that the striker should be commended for.
Reims, who finished 12th in Ligue 1 last season, are an ambitious club who have made six signings already this season as they push to finish in the top half of the league next term.
Also, the club have just sold their star striker, Hugo Ekitike to PSG, and will be looking toward the talented Arsenal youngster to provide the goals.
Balogun will be looking to transfer his electric scoring rate at youth level to the French top-flight, as his loan to Middlesborough did not produce many strikes.
The 21-year-old, who is was born in New York, scored three goals and provided three assists in 21 appearances at the Riverside Stadium last season.
He will be looking to return to the sensational goal-scoring rate that he recorded at youth level, where he hit the back of the net every 1.4 games for the Gunners’ various youth teams.
In other Arsenal news, Charlie Patino has secured a loan move to Blackpool.
