Jamie O'Hara: Arsenal should get rid of William Saliba
Arsenal defender William Saliba has been labeled “not good enough” by talkSPORT pundit and former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.
The 21-year-old youngster has had a strong pre-season and was particularly impressive for the Gunners in their Emirates Cup victory against Sevilla.
However, O’Hara has revealed his opinion on the centre-back stating that he thinks the Gunners should sell the him.
Speaking to talkSPORT Edge, as shown on Twitter on 2 August, O’Hara said: “If he’s been there three seasons and you’ve loaned him out twice, he is clearly not good enough.
“Get rid of him!”
No. Arsenal should not get rid of Saliba.
The decision to loan Saliba three after signing him for a huge fee in the summer of 2019 was an odd one, however, three years later, it is clear to see why the club decided to do so.
The defender arrived in North London as an 18-year-old who despite showing high potential, was still an inexperienced teenager in need of game time.
He did waste the first half of the 2020-21 season, as the Gunners failed to secure a loan move for him or integrate him into the first-team side.
However, the last two loan spells have seen the best of Saliba, especially the latter at Marseille, where Saliba was named the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season and earned a France international call-up and now is in the running for the France squad in the World Cup later this year.
The inexperienced defender Arsenal had three years ago is now a fully-fledged international and has fitted seamlessly into their defence.
He significantly strengthens the Gunners’ Champions League hopes this season, and the patience around the defender seems to have paid off.
So no, Arsenal should not “get rid.”
In other Arsenal news, Folarin Balogun has secured a loan move to Reims.
