{{/primary_category}} Aston Villa: Jacob Ramsey deserves England call up from Gareth Southgate
Gareth Southgate will soon be selecting his England squad for the March internationals
and perhaps there will be a place in the 23 for Aston Villa starlet Jacob Ramsey.
The 20-year-old has rapidly become a key element of Steven Gerrard’s side and has repaid
the former Three Lions skipper with five Premier League goals so far this season.
Despite his rapid rise to stardom in the biggest league in the world, Ramsey only has 13
youth caps to his name for England having often been just on the fringes of selection at
every age level.
It’s not like he has grabbed his goals all at once or against lower-league cannon fodder
either, he’s done it on the biggest stage, scoring and assisting against Manchester United for Aston Villa.
Southgate has a huge pool of brilliant players to choose from and Ramsey is by no means
ready to be a starting player for England, in big matches at least, but he should be in the
conversation for a call this month.
Declan Rice will be the first midfield name in the squad with Jordan Henderson and Jude
Bellingham others who are almost guaranteed but Kalvin Phillips’ injury might have opened
the door.
March could come too soon for him but if he can start next season like he is ending this
campaign he may well force the England boss to buy his plane ticket to Qatar.
