Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey earns Team of the Week inclusion from Alan Shearer

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has named Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey in his Team of the Week for his performance against Manchester United.

The 21-year-old scored the third goal as Villa won by 3-1 in front of their home fans in Unai Emery’s first game in charge of the club.

Ramsey started playing as a 10 but as the game evolved, moved into a striking position and gave the United players plenty to think about.

Shearer told the Premier League website, “Rewarded Emery’s faith in him with a man-of-the-match performance. Man Utd couldn’t handle his clever movement.”

England ready?

Ramsey is showcasing all the attributes needed for him to be an England player.

The Three Lions are short on quality options in the middle of the park as Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are the only consistent players there.

Kalvin Phillips has been exceptional in the build-up to Euro 2020 as well as the competition itself, but hasn’t really kicked on and has also been unlucky with injuries at Manchester City.

James Ward-Prowse appears to be the only other option and even he gets picked based on his set-piece ability while Jordan Henderson goes because of his seniority.

Ramsey is showing that he can be the perfect attacking midfielder who can not only be a backup to Bellingham but also start if England play a midfield three.

With Rice holding, the likes of Ramsey and Bellingham can go on to wreak havoc in the final third, giving the Three Lione much more bite which they’re currently lacking.
