Aston Villa teen Chukwuemeka left out of club's pre-season tour - Fabrizio Romano
Aston Villa starlet Carney Chukwuemeka has been left out of his club’s pre-season tour by Steven Gerrard, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 18-year-old has one year left on his contract and has rejected all of the club’s previous offers with his future at Villa Park now being extremely uncertain.
The Italian sports journalist revealed on 13 July via Twitter that Chukwuemeka’s contract status is the reason why he has been left out with manager Steven Gerrard stating that the midfielder should continue training in England.
Romano said: “Carney Chukwuemeka is out of Aston Villa team for their pre-season tour due to his contract situation.
“Steven Gerrard has said ‘Carney is yet to sign a contract offer that has been in place for some time so I’ve decided the best thing would be to continue his training programme.”
Move on the horizon?
A transfer away from Villa Park may be close on the horizon with a host of clubs reportedly interested in the youngster.
Some of the clubs pondering a move for the wonderkid include Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle, according to Graeme Bailey.
In addition to the Premier League interest, there has also been interest from overseas as Barcelona have reportedly registered interest in the youngster, according to Romano.
It is clear that other clubs have become aware of Chukwuemeka’s potential and are lining up to snap up the youngster before other clubs get a chance.
Aston Villa have a fight on their hands to keep the 18-year-oldhowever, with the decision to leave him at home while they go on a pre-season tour, it seems that the decision on his future may have already been made.
Aston Villa may have been prepared for Chukwuemeka’s departure as they have reportedly been in the market for a midfielder after the arrival of Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara and links to West Ham’s Tomas Soucek [The Sun].
In other Aston Villa news, Barcelona are also keen on Chukwuemeka.
