Huddersfield sign Kaine Kesler-Hayden on season-long loan from Aston Villa

Huddersfield have confirmed the signing of young full-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

The Championship club confirmed via their official Twitter account and official website on Friday (12 August) that Kesler-Hayden, 19, has joined to play at either right-back or right wing-back.

Kesler-Hayden spent last season on loan at both Swindon Town in League Two and MK Dons in League One.

On the rise

It’s pretty clear that Kesler-Hayden was playing well below his level in League Two with Swindon at the start of last season.

That’s probably why once January came around that loan deal ended and he was sent on loan to MK Dons in the division above, where he played 17 times in all competitions, scoring one goal and supplying one assist in the process.

The England Under-20 international helped MK Dons qualify for the League One play-offs and he started both legs of the semi-final clash with Wycombe.

Unfortunately for him, those games ended in a 2-1 aggregate defeat for Milton Keynes.

Kesler-Hayden spent last season playing mainly as a wing-back on the right-hand side but he can also move across to the left.

It remains to be seen how much of a role he’ll play at Huddersfield in the Championship this season but we’d imagine that he’s joined the Terriers as a squad option instead of being a regular starter.

Still, to go from League Two to the Championship in the space of a year is quite the achievement and shows that this young Villan is firmly on the right tracks in regards to his development.
