Brentford close to completing deal for Aaron Hickey - report

Brentford are close to completing the transfer of Bologna defender Aaron Hickey, according to Sky Sports.

The Scottish full-back has been the target of a number of clubs but it appears that the Bees are the closest to securing the services of the 20-year-old.

They had a fee of £14m plus add-ons agreed with the Italian club and are now finalizing the last details of the transfer before announcing the deal officially.

The Sky Sports report said: “Aaron Hickey is set to undergo a medical in the UK on Tuesday ahead of his proposed transfer to Brentford.

“A fee in the region of £14m plus add-ons is understood to have been agreed between the clubs.”

Huge deal for the Bees.

The transfer of Hickey is huge news for Brentford who are acquiring an exciting and energetic full-bacl destined to achieve big things in the game.

The 20-year-old full-back joined Bologna from Hearts, for a reported fee of £1.5m in 2020 and has made 48 appearances for Bologna since moving to Italy.

Hickey also made his senior Scotland debut in a 1-1 draw with Poland in March and has made four appearances for his country since.

The defender is notably two-footed, sometimes leaving people scratching their heads as to what his strong foot actually is.

His two-footed nature makes him extra versatile, being deployed primarily as a left-back but also as a right back on some occasions.

He is a tough tackler and adept in one-on-one defending situations as well as having an eye for goal, scoring five times last season for Bologna.

The former Hearts defender has all the traits of the modern-day full-back and Bees are buying a player who has just begun to scratch the surface of his potential.
