Brighton goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen wanted on loan by Vitesse - report
Vitesse Arnhem in Holland are keen to sign Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen on loan, according to The Sun.
The 22-year-old was recently called up to the Netherlands squad for the summer international window despite being yet to make his debut for the Seagulls in any competition.
The six-foot, nine-inch shot-stopper spent the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Oostende in the Belgian top division and he may be allowed to leave the Amex Stadium temporarily once again this upcoming term.
Scherpen is not the only goalkeeper at Brighton who is attracting loan interest with Carl Rushworth, 21, a popular target among clubs in League One although no specific teams are mentioned.
Keep him
Surely Graham Potter has questioned whether he has missed a trick with this giant considering he has just been in the same international squad as Virgil Van Dijk and Frenkie De Jong.
The Netherlands don’t just hand out international call-ups to anyone who puts their hand up, you have to be a seriously talented player in whatever position you play to even have a chance of getting that phone call.
So if he has been selected by the Dutch, what makes him not good enough for Brighton’s first team with only Robert Sanchez around as a properly top-quality shot-stopper?
Let’s not forget that the Seagulls stumbled upon Sanchez after a loan spell at Rochdale and threw him into the firepit of the Premier League and he kept his cool like a seasoned professional.
Maybe the same would happen with Scherpen but Potter has lost some of his bottle and seems almost scared to change anything between the sticks, even if it’s only for one or two games.
In other Brighton news, the Seagulls have gone out and purchased a teenage sensation from South America who is already a full international.
