Chelsea consider move for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest - The Athletic
Chelsea are consdering a move for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest this summer, according to The Athletic.
The online source have reported on their website that the American international is an attractive proposition should the Blues decide to strengthen at wing-back.
Dest can play on the left and the right, meaning that he can offer great versatility and cover for Thomas Tuchel.
Writing in his latest column, Simon Johnson shared the potential transfer that could happen if others such as Achraf Hakimi don’t materialise.
“If Chelsea do decide to invest in a wing-back, Barcelona’s US international Sergino Dest has been on their radar since the start of the year,” he wrote.
“The fact the 21-year-old can play on both flanks makes him an attractive proposition.”
Cheaper.
This would be a much cheaper move than Hakimi.
Xavi hasn’t exactly used Dest much, which could be served as a warning that he is nothing more than a rotation option, but that is exactly what Tuchel needs.
With the Todd Boehly takeover seemingly close, it is also suggested that a £200million war chest is coming the Germans way, could this be a priority move?
Ben Chilwell should be back for the start of next season, so he and Reece James should be guaranteed first-choices, with whoever comes in this summer a back up.
That certainly suits Dest more.
Hakimi would require a huge fee and also a guaranteed start – something that would surely not make sense given the Blues have James at right back.
Dest being able to play on the left means he can cover both sides and there can be a constant rotation between the three, now that is one to watch.
