Chelsea have met with Brazilian wonderkid Endrick, they're among frontrunner in race for deal - report

Palmeiras’ Endrick has caught the eye of European powerhouses due to his fantastic form in Brazil, and Chelsea have now emerged among the frontrunners, according to the Evening Standard.

Endrick is hot property when it comes to footballing wonderkids, with the 16-year-old attracting interest from the likes of Real Madrid and PSG.

Los Blancos were initially considered to be leading the race for his signature, but the Evening Standard now report that Chelsea are now among the favourites after multiple meetings with him.

“The 16-year-old Palmeiras striker is facing unprecedented interest in his signature and has had several recent meetings with the west Londoners,” reads the report.

A statement signing

Chelsea are looking to start fresh under new owner Todd Boehly, who will be eager to mark the start of a new era since his takeover from Roman Abramovich.

Boehly made his intentions clear with the huge spending spree in the summer, and the American seems keen to keep investing at a similar rate.

Endrick has emerged as a top talent after shining for Palmeiras, and the bidding war has practically already begun. With Boehly looking to make a big statement, Endrick’s signature could be the perfect opportunity.

The player’s father, Douglas, works alongside Endrick as his representative, and the Evening Standard report insists that “any future deal will be signed in early 2023 ahead of a move in 2024” – when Endrick turns 18.

It’s certainly a bold move to make, and whoever wins the race for Endrick will be putting a lot of faith into his development in Brazil.

But with the Blues keeping one eye on building for the future under Boehly and new manager Graham Potter, it’s no surprise that they’ve barged their way to the front of the line.
