Chelsea in advanced talks with RB Leipzig for Josko Gvardiol - Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig for 20-year-old Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The defender is one of the world’s most promising defenders and has already established himself on the international from with his national team.

Romano has revealed that a blockbuster deal has been agreed in a deal that will see the centre-back stay at Leipzig on loan and join Chelsea in 2023.

Gvardiol to Chelsea

The signing of Gvardiol is a huge one for the Blues, who for the fourth time this summer spend blockbuster money on a defender.

The Croatian will join the likes of Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana who is set to join the club from Leicester.

However, questions regarding Chelsea’s transfer strategy will remain after the signing of Gvardiol as they are still yet to fill major holes in their squad.

They are still in desperate need of a striker with German forward Kai Havertz failing to produce the goods leading the line for the club.

The decision to spend so much money on another defender instead of on a striker is a baffling concept and a question only Thomas Tuchel and the Chelsea board can answer.

Also, this is not good news for promising young defenders like Levi Colwill and Trevor Chalobah.

In other Chelsea news, the club have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
