Chelsea pip Manchester United to top academy production rankings

Chelsea are now England’s most productive academy having risen above Manchester United in the Training Ground Guru’s rankings.

The Blues have seen more players from their own academy play in England’s top four divisions (Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two) than any other team.

This is the first time Chelsea have topped Training Ground Guru’s rankings with United and Arsenal close behind in second and third.

Manchester City have lept up the rankings and are now closer to the big three than ever before while Liverpool languish down in 10th, below League Two side Crewe Alexandra.

Tottenham Hotspur complete the top five while West Ham, Everton, and Leeds complete the top 10. Bournemouth are the lowest Premier League side in 43rd although Brentford don’t appear on the list at all.

Chelsea might not be the first club some people think of when they consider teams promoting young talent but that is where these rankings come into play.

They not only count players who have made it into the senior team at their original club but also those who have been released and are now playing elsewhere in the Football League.

For Chelsea, Tariq Uwakwe is a perfect example of someone who failed to make the grade at Stamford Bridge but is now a regular for Crewe in the fourth tier.

The rankings do have a weight towards players who are playing for their original clubs such as Reece James, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who all started their Chelsea careers at a similar time.

The transfer embargo the Blues suffered under Frank Lampard’s management has massively helped them rise up these particular rankings with the now Everton boss forced to promote from within to strengthen his side.

In other Chelsea news, this much-talked-about goalkeeper is on his way to London to join up with the Blues from his MLS franchise.
