Chelsea are set to continue their academy recruitment this summer with the signing of Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist, who writes for the Guardian, revealed (via Twitter) that a fee of £1.5milion will be paid for the 16-year-old attacking midfielder.

Dibling is set to join Brighton youngster Zak Sturge in making the move from the south coast to West London.

Chelsea and youth

Chelsea are really ramping up their youth recruitment this summer after the takeover of the West London club by Todd Boehly.

However, the Blues must ensure that the youngsters they’re recruiting now are given a fair chance to succeed at Stamford Bridge and are not just lost in the extensive youth system at the club.

Paying £1.5million for a 16-year-old does seem quite steep considering he has yet to feature in any senior football.

However, he is clearly very highly rated and certainly viewed as a player with a bright future by Chelsea.

Dibling is still at an age where remaining in youth football is the best option for his development.

A loan move now could see him struggle for game time whilst also being in a worse environment.

Southampton will be disappointed to lose one of their youth products but also content that they’ve managed to muster a fee for the 16-year-old.

His career at Chelsea is certainly one to keep an eye on in the years to come.

Let’s hope he doesn’t become one of the many cases at Stamford Bridge that end up on numerous loan deals to Europe before being sold permanently when they hit their twenties.

In other Chelsea news, the club have loaned out midfielder Tino Anjorin to Huddersfield.
