Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour set for showdown talks with Tuchel - report
Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour is set for showdown talks with Thomas Tuchel on his future, according to the Telegraph’s Matt Law.
The midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Norwich, is currently with the under-23s team in America on their pre-season tour, after being told by Tuchel that he would not play.
However, Law has now revealed that talks on his future are set to take place when the team return to the UK at the end of their tour.
Law said: “Billy Gilmour will hold talks with Thomas Tuchel over his Chelsea future after dropping down from the first team’s tour of the United States.
“Scotland midfielder Gilmour has joined Chelsea’s Under-23s tour in Salt Lake, rather than travelling to Charlotte and Orlando, after being told he would not play by Tuchel.”
A potential move on the cards?
Gilmour finds himself at a crossroads at this point in his career, after a hugely unsuccessful season at Norwich.
The midfielder, who began his youth career at Rangers, joined Chelsea’s academy system at the age of 16 and has made 78 appearances for various Chelsea youth teams and eventually made his first-team debut against Sheffield United in August 2019.
The season-long loan at Carrow Road last year simply did not work for Gilmour, who found himself in an out of the relegation-bound Canaries and was unfairly scapegoated for some poor performances throughout the season.
However, despite this poor season, it was still a learning curve for the Scotland international midfielder who is still an extremely gifted and promising player, just looking for the right home to display and nurture his talents.
The former Rangers academy player does his best work as a deep-lying midfielder, however, he is also able to play higher up the pitch and use his relentless energy for pressing and eye for a pass to good effect.
If he can get a move to a club this summer that suits him, he will show the world his undeniable talent.
