Curtis Jones needs to hit his stride at Liverpool in 2022/23

Curtis Jones must hit his stride at Liverpool in the 2022/23 season before he becomes nothing more than a squad player.

The 21-year-old has an abundance of raw talent, there is certainly no denying that but he has failed to live up to the hype at Anfield.

When he burst onto the scene as a teenager his brilliant trickery on the ball was mesmerising, but he is struggling to adapt to life in the first team somewhat.

Jurgen Klopp is clearly a huge admirer of the lad but the Kopites have become increasingly frustrated with the midfielder and his rather inconsistent form which has seen him in and out of the starting XI over the last couple of campaigns.

The Scouser was tipped to be a future star for the Anfield outfit and given how young Jones is, there is no reason why that still can’t happen but he needs to take his game up another level or two.

The England youth international has all of the ability to do exactly that he just needs to knuckle down and try to outperform his fellow midfielders on a consistent basis.

You have to feel for him because with Thiago, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson the Reds’ certified starters – there isn’t much room for him in the starting line-up elsewhere.

What he needs to do is ensure that he is outperforming the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain who – apart from the Ox – were all ahead of him in the midfield pecking order towards the end of the season.

More importantly, he needs to show what he has on the pitch when he is given the opportunity.

He has stunned before with brilliant goals against Brentford in the Premier League and Everton in the FA Cup and he must carry that same confidence and flair into every game.

In other Liverpool news, Harvey Elliott must get his Liverpool career back on track in 2022/23.
