View: Mason Burstow has big future at Chelsea after sensational U21 goal
Chelsea have invested a huge amount of money into their academy and signing talented English players and that is starting to pay off.
The Blues had their heads turned by Charlton Athletic youngster Mason Burstow in January and opted to sign him on deadline day before loaning him back to the Addicks for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-od is now playing regularly for Chelsea’s Under-21 side and netted his second goal for the club on Tuesday evening with a sensational lob from 40 yards out away at League One outfit Oxford United.
The replay of the epic goal was shared by Sky Sports on Instagram and even the slow-motion footage is something to behold for someone so young in their footballing career.
To have the audacity to try such an outlandish effort and then pull it off will no doubt catch the attention of new Blues manager Graham Potter and plenty of Stamford Bridge supporters.
He could do with another loan somewhere in the Football League fairly soon though because his career could be stagnated by staying at Chelsea for too long.
Mason Mount and Reece James both proved the use of a loan spell as they excelled for Derby County and Wigan Athletic respectively before becoming stars for the first team and England internationals.
It is still far too soon to suggest the same will happen to Burstow but confidence can take a young player a very long way towards senior football and he is clearly oozing it out of every vein.
Chelsea have a very good chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Papa John’s Trophy now and they should be looking to Burstow to lead the side to potential greatness.
In other Chelsea news, they are ready to make a huge bid to sign this Fulham youngster.
