View: Newcastle need Elliot Anderson's big-game mentality after vital goal on Saturday

Newcastle United have seen a remarkable resurgence ever since Eddie Howe took the managers role and it looks like the good times will keep on coming.

They are among the most in-form teams in the entire Premier League but their temperament in the big games could be questioned which is why one of their loanees needs to be brought back to St James’ Park next season.

Elliot Anderson has been almost ever-present for League Two Bristol Rovers this season and they needed a miracle to overhaul Northampton Town and achieve promotion on Saturday (7 May).

But a miracle they did as they scored the seven goals they needed to beat the Cobblers’ goal difference and secure their place in League One for next season.

It was the 19-year-old who popped up with the decisive seventh goal to send the Memorial Stadium absolutely wild and that is exactly the kind of spirit and mentality that Howe needs in his squad.

BBC reporter Andy Sixsmith was in awe of the entire spectacle as supporters of the Gas poured onto the pitch when Anderson’s effort struck the back of the net.

“Elliot Anderson with the all-important seventh goal for Bristol Rovers. What an incredible moment for the young man,” Sixsmith said, via his personal Twitter account.

Newcastle don’t really have any kind of experience in games that really matter like that and even though it is way below the heights of the Premier League, it is highly valuable to them.

It would take a big amount of trust on Howe’s side but if he does, the Magpies could really benefit next season.

In other Newcastle news, the Toon will go chasing this teenage striker once again in the summer.
