Crystal Palace agree deal to sign Chris Richards from Bayern - report

Crystal Palace have agreed an £12.7million deal to sign American Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old will join the South London club after spending last season on loan at Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

Romano reported the deal on Twitter on Wednesday (20 July), revealing that there has been a full agreement on personal terms and that Crystal Palace will pay Bayern £12.7million (€15m) for the defender.

Who is Richards?

Richards is a player of huge potential, largely down to his energy and versatility, as well as his two-footed nature,

He can be deployed anywhere across the back line and has the ability on the ball as well as aerial to play either as a full-back or as a centre-back as well as pace and recovery strength.

Even at his young age, he is an experienced player, playing for three teams in two different countries since making his debut for FC Dallas in 2018, as an 18-year-old, as well as making six appearances for the US men’s national team.

Richards, who is six-foot-one, made 10 appearances in total for Bayern Munich’s first team and made 34 appearances last season for Hoffenheim who finished 9th in the Bundesliga last season.

He will be a useful asset to Patrick Vieira who will appreciate his versatility and how he could combine with the likes of Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi.
