Crystal Palace youngster John-Kymani Gordon named Premier League 2 Player of the Month

Crystal Palace striker John-Kymani Gordon has been named the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September after shining for the Eagles.

Crystal Palace pride themselves on their academy, and they’ll be celebrating a proud day today after 19-year-old Gordon scooped the PL2 Player of the Month award.

Gordon scored three goals across September, with all three coming in his hat-trick against Tottenham in the Premier League’s youth tournament.

His good month didn’t stop there either. As a result of his good form, Patrick Vieira named Gordon on the bench for Palace’s matches against Chelsea and Leeds United.

“It feels very, very good,” Gordon told Crystal Palace’s official website. “All the hard work I’ve been doing is paying off and the reward tops it off.

“I’ve been training with the first team basically every day and I’m enjoying it a lot. Tempo’s high, intensity is high, but I’ve had to get used to it and now I feel like I’m blending in very well.”

Rising through the ranks

Vieira has done superbly during his short time at Palace to bring in some of the club’s promising youngsters and implement them into his squad.

It’ll only spur on the current crop of youth to keep pushing and break through into his squad, and that’s exactly what Gordon is doing.

It’s good for young players to know that good form and hard work is rewarded, and Gordon has clearly caught Vieira’s eye in the process if he’s stuck around in the first-team training.

Plus, with a hectic schedule coming up and a Carabao Cup clash away to Newcastle United, Vieira will have to rotate and could even field some of the youngsters in his squad.

If he continues to make Palace’s bench – it’s only a matter of time until Kymani-Gordon makes his professional debut for the Eagles, and he’s in the right hands at Selhurst Park to thrive.
