Alan Shearer blown away by 'Fearless' Everton sensation Anthony Gordon

By Ben Brown

Alan Shearer says he has been impressed by Anthony Gordon’s “fearless attitude” for Everton this season.

The 21-year-old has made 24 league appearances for the Toffees as their season has descended into a scrap for survival, but the winger has remained high on praise from fans on Merseyside.

And all-time Premier League top scorer Shearer has only added to the positive words being said about the academy graduate, impressed by his tenacious approach to the game.

“Everton fans have really gotten behind the winger who has shown passion and plenty of ability in what has been a tough season for the Toffees,” said Shearer, as shown on the Premier League’s YouTube account.

“I’ve personally been impressed by his fearless attitude, he’s not afraid to get stuck in and he tries to make things happen going forward, putting plenty of crosses into the box.”

Bright Spark

Evertonians haven’t had much to shout about this season with relegation still a real possibility under new boss Frank Lampard, but Gordon has at least offered a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

His breakthrough into the first team has given fans something to cling to in a grim season, with one of their own earning frequent opportunities and getting to see someone on the pitch who undoubtedly wants to fight for the shirt.

The youngster netted three times in recent home games against Brighton and Leeds but both he and his side have only scored once in the league since the latter fixture, Alex Iwobi’s dramatic late strike against Newcastle providing the only moment of cheer for those inside Goodison Park.

However the season ends up for the Toffees, Gordon looks as though he will be a key part of the club’s future. He will surely be hoping like any fan that will continue to be in the Premier League.
