Anthony Gordon: Everton starlet should receive an England call-up amid purple patch

The results might not be coming easily to Everton right now but there is one Toffee who is shining brighter than any other at Goodison Park during their dark times.

20-year-old winger Anthony Gordon is very quickly becoming not only a fan favourite on Merseyside but actually one of their most vital players as they fight for their lives to maintain their Premier League status.

Having come through the academy at Finch Farm, Gordon looks willing to die for the shirt every time he steps onto the pitch and the supporters at Goodison Park have rapidly noticed and taken him to their hearts.

England manager Gareth Southgate will certainly have his name on his list of potential future international players but given his sensational form at this current moment, he may be scribbling out ‘future’ and replacing it with ‘present’.

When a player is exciting fans like the 20-year-old is right now, you have to almost ignore the league position his team are currently in because no matter how good a player is, they cannot win a game on their own.

Everton manager Frank Lampard will no doubt be in conversation with Southgate already with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness and form being a concern and Gordon has surely been talked about during those chats.

Two friendlies in March is the ideal opportunity to give some of these lesser-tested individuals a chance on the international stage and Gordon has to be one of those tried out in the squad as a reward for his fine season to date.
