Everton forward Lewis Dobbin joins Derby County on loan

Everton teenage forward Lewis Dobbin has completed his move to Derby County on a season-long loan.

The Toffees have confirmed the move via their official website on Wednesday (3 August). The 19-year-old England youth international has joined the League One side, as he looks to get regular games under his belt.

Dobbin made three appearances as a substitute in the Premier League in the first half of last season, and Frank Lampard has felt it’s good for him to go elsewhere and play regularly.

The youngster tweeted after completing the move: “Buzzing To Be Here For The New Season On Loan. Can’t Wait To Get Going And Meet You Rams!”

Good move?

Dobbin is a fantastic young talent. He joined Everton Academy aged 11 and has made impressive progress in recent years.

The youngster has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract in January 2022, and the club has long-term plans for him.

However, at this moment, he needs to get regular games to continue his development.

Derby Country are looking to get back to the Championship and Dobbin will be looking to make a strong impact there.

Having said that, the timing of this transfer move has caught many by surprise.

Everton are yet to sign a striker this summer, and they are seriously lacking in depth in their forward department.

On top of that, the Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has picked up an injury, and he is likely to be absent for around one month.

Lampard could have given Dobbin a chance in the absence of Calvert-Lewin, but it seems the club didn’t want to take any risk. It’s a very good move for the youngster.
