Scouting expert: Chelsea could be open to permanent Levi Colwill sale next summer
We’re delighted to welcome Football Manager’s Wolves researcher Dave Azzopardi as our exclusive columnist. Each week the scouting expert will be giving his views on the biggest talking points on Wonderkids across the UK…
Chelsea could be more open to a permanent sale of Levi Colwill next summer depending on how his loan spell at Brighton goes this season, says Dave Azzopardi.
The England Under-21 defender moved to the Amex Stadium on a season-long loan as part of the deal that took Marc Cucurella to Stamford Bridge in a £62m transfer earlier in the window.
But Chelsea ensured it was just a loan rather than a permanent deal, and Azzopardi believes that is so they can see how he gets on in the Premier League and hopefully boost his value before a sale next year.
“It’s that thing with Chelsea again, isn’t it?” he told The Football Wonderkids.
“They’ve got so many talented players. Firstly we have to add that this is his step up to the Premier League. I think it’s going to be a good level for him, I think he had a good year last year.

“But I think he’s got to have this year to test himself. It will be interesting to see with Chelsea, last year they had Gallagher have a good spell in the Premier League, Armando Broja too, to see what they’re going to do with them.
“Are they going to give them the game time? Or are they going to sell them before the end of the window?
“I think Chelsea know there’s a lot of value there potentially, so they’ll want to give him a season in the Premier League and see what happens. I think depending on how he gets on at Brighton, they probably will be open to a sale next summer. But they know they would have increased his value quite significantly from this summer.”
