Crysencio Summerville out for rest of Leeds United season following fresh injury

Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville will miss the rest of the Whites’ campaign with an ankle injury, manager Jesse Marsch has confirmed.

The 20-year-old Dutchman picked up the problem in training ahead of the weekend clash with Manchester City and will now focus on recovering in time for pre-season.

Marsch has admitted it’s a blow for his side as they desperately try to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

“Summerville picked up an injury in the last training we had before the Palace match, he has been in really good form,” quotes the Yorkshire Evening Post (28 April).

“He twisted his ankle and will be done for the season. That one was disappointing.”

Just when they seem to be getting the situation under control this relentless campaign continues to stretch the treatment room at Elland Road to its absolute limits.

Summerville hasn’t yet fully broken into the first-team squad at Leeds but there is lots of excitement around the youngster which only increased after he recently bagged a hattrick against Crystal Palace’s under23s.

With the future of Raphinha looking increasingly uncertain many have tipped Summerville to be the Brazilian’s natural successor on the right-hand side and this injury may work out to be a blessing in disguise if it allows him to show good application and determination during his recovery in the off-season.

Nevertheless, it’s another selection headache Marsch could have done without as he looks to mastermind Leeds’ route to Premier League survival, with the options in his squad getting thinner by the week.

In other Leeds United news, the club are reportedly interested in making a move for this Championship midfield sensation.
