Leeds United set to sign Darko Gyabi from Manchester City for £5m - report
Leeds United are reportedly set to secure the services of Manchester City youngster Darko Gyabi from Manchester City.
According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Citizens will be signing Kalvin Phillips from Leeds and will include the 18-year-old as part of the deal.
He will move the other way for a fee in the region of £5million although he’s not expected to be a like-for-like replacement for Phillips.
Tad high?
This move has certainly come out from the left field for Leeds and it’s probably what City slipped into the negotiations at the last minute.
We’ve known about their interest in Phillips for a while and now they will be signing him with the teenager going the other way.
Leeds have made it a policy to recruit youngsters for their famed academy at Thorp Arch and have promoted a number of players over the past few years.
Gyabi knows that he’s got a better chance of making the first team at Leeds than at City and we’re certain that factored into his thinking during his move.
It will be interesting to track his trajectory at Elland Road as he’s undoubtedly a highly-rated player who will only get better with time.
He certainly is not expected to be in and around the first team any time soon but we’re expecting to see more of him in the coming years and he could go on to make it big at Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, The Whites, along with Rangers and Celtic are keen on Cardiff City youngster Japhet Matondo.
