View: Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville needs to follow the Phil Foden route

Leeds wonderkid Crysencio Summerville is one of the highest-rated young prospects at Thorp Arch but he will have to be patient for his chance.

The 20-year-old was in great form in the club’s Carabao Cup victory against Barnsley and reminded everyone about the sky-high potential he possesses.

However, the Dutch winger may need to follow the footsteps of Manchester City sensation Phil Foden, and bide his time before fully breaking onto the scene.

The Phil Foden route.

Summerville joined the club from Feyenoord in 2020 and has excelled in the youth academy ever since, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists 29 games for the under-21 team.

This absurd record of a goal or assist every 1.3 games for the youth academy, as well as a goal every 3.2 games for the Netherlands youth teams, led to him making his Premier League debut in September 2021 in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

The club are clearly aware of his promising talent as not only did they award him a lucrative new contract earlier this month but he was also given now-departed Raphina’s number 10 shirt.

However, with all this promise he may have to follow the pathway of Foden, who had to wait his turn to be fully unleashed in the Premier League.

Everyone was aware of Foden’s talent and there was a huge clamour to see more of the Englishman, but his manager was patient and eased him into the team where he is now one of the club’s most important players.

Summerville, like Foden, will just have to be patient but know that his time will come and when it does, he must take the opportunity with both hands.

In other Leeds news, Summerville was praised by Michael Killgallon on BBC Radio Leeds.
