Newcastle United and Leicester City want PSG striker Arnaud Kalimuendo - report

Paris Saint-Germain striker Arnaud Kalimuendo is a hot topic in the transfer market with both Newcastle United and Leicester City keeping tabs, according to Foot Mercato.

The 20-year-old has spent the 2021/22 season out on loan at fellow Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens where he has bagged 10 goals in 30 appearances in the league with another strike to his tally in the Coupe de Ligue.

He also has four goals in nine caps for the France Under-21 side and his impressive season in his homeland has the Magpies and Foxes on alert.

PSG refused to sell him last summer after an initial spell at Lens but sent him back to where he was already successful for another year on deadline day in August.

An extension of his deal in the French capital is to be discussed in the coming weeks but the interest from the Premier League might cause the Parisiens to reconsider their strategy in the transfer market.

Low risk

At 20 years of age, there are still a lot of unknowns for Kalimuendo and it could be seen as a risk to enter a potential bidding war for someone who only has one really decent season under his belt.

But because PSG are likely to ask for a fairly small figure in the grand scheme of things, the move might actually be as low risk as they come in the modern transfer market.

Let’s say for a moment that he will be available for £5million (a random figure used as an example), even if he doesn’t quite work out, both Leicester and Newcastle could probably sell him again in two or three years for the same sort of price or maybe even more.

It might turn out that the Parisiens want to keep him and given his double-figure return this season in a far inferior team to their own, they would be barking mad to let him go without letting him strut his stuff at the Parc des Princes first to see what he is made of.
