Liverpool confident of winning race for £3m-rated Calvin Ramsay - report

Liverpool are increasingly confident of beating Leeds United to the signing of Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay, according to the Sun.

The 18-year-old has burst onto the scene in Scotland this season having been the shining light of the Dons’ otherwise underwhelming 2021/22 season.

The Reds believe that despite Leeds’ approach, Ramsay is going to choose Anfield over Elland Road and try to learn from Trent Alexander-Arnold under Jurgen Klopp’s management.

The Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s young player of the season [Sky Sports] is expected to be available for just £3million which would hardly make a dent in either Liverpool’s or Leeds’ summer budgets.

“It’s all about learning and you’ve got to keep calm,” Ramsay previously said about the speculation, as quoted by the Sun. “You can’t let it get to your head.

“If you do you can end up thinking you’re better than you are and not playing how you can.”

Unnecessary

Ramsay is undoubtedly a talented individual but of all the positions for Liverpool to be searching for, right-back shouldn’t be one of them given the strength they already have in that department.

Alexander-Arnold is obviously the undisputed number one at Anfield in that position but if it’s backup Klopp is after, then he already has Neco Williams to call upon.

The Welsh international has been a regular for Fulham all season and has helped them to promotion from the Championship with his surging forward runs and connection with Harry Wilson on the Cottagers’ right-hand side.

Adding Ramsay to that equation would cause some seriously unnecessary headaches for the German manager and he can easily avoid it by not signing the 18-year-old.

There could always be the possibility that Williams wants to leave as he knows he won’t be the first-choice right-back any time soon but the Reds don’t need to make a move until they know the Welshman’s future, they have plenty of time.

In other Liverpool news, Aurelien Tchouameni is another wonderkid on Klopp’s summer shopping list, according to the latest reports.
