Liverpool in race to sign £10m Colombian wonderkid Jhon Duran from MLS side Chicago Fire - report

Liverpool are looking to bring 18-year-old winger Jhon Duran to Anfield but face competition from Chelsea according to The Sun.

Duran enjoyed his breakthrough with Chicago Fire this season and has immediately become a prospect in MLS, catching the eye of Premier League scouts.

Among the Colombian’s many admirers are Liverpool, who could line up a £10million bid to seal his signature according to The Sun.

They report that Liverpool are “chasing” the MLS star and that getting a work permit would be no issue after Duran recently made his international debut against Guatemala.

Luis Diaz understudy?

Duran has shone on the right for Chicago this season, with his pace and direct running causing bundles of problems for opposition defenders.

His high-energy style paired with his good technical ability makes him a perfect fit at Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp already knows this – he has Luis Diaz.

The Colombian winger is a very similar player to Duran – albeit more experienced and polished at the highest level.

But that makes him the perfect mentor for Duran should he make a permanent switch to Merseyside either in January or next summer.

Diaz has been a standout performer under Klopp since making a £37million move from Porto in January. With Darwin Nunez struggling to settle in and Sadio Mane not being properly replaced, Liverpool will need to bolster their attacking department more.

Of course, Duran would be a long-term project under Klopp, but with Diaz to study as well as Mohammed Salah on the right, it’s the perfect destination for him to fulfil his lofty potential.
