Liverpool lead chase to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham
Liverpool are leading the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, according to a report from The Telegraph.
The 19-year-old produced a superb display during their Champions League defeat at Manchester City, and his value has risen since he joined from Birmingham City two years ago for a fee of £20.7 million.
Bellingham was not available in the market this summer, but he is likely to be available for transfer in 2023. Liverpool are likely to be in the race at that time, should he look to return to England.
Quality
The midfield is one area Jurgen Klopp needs to bolster in the summer.
The Reds boss signed Arthur Melo on deadline day earlier this month on loan, but Liverpool need more quality in that area.
Jordan Henderson is fast approaching the late years of his career, and the Reds need fresh energetic legs in the middle of the park. James Milner, another option, is also approaching the fag end of his career.
Curtis Jones was expected to fill the void left by Gini Wijnaldum, but he has struggled to fulfil his potential.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains perennially injured, while Naby Keita may have become out of favour at the club.
His recurrent injuries are no longer a cause for concern, rather it has become a frustrating issue for the club. The Reds paid a massive fee to sign him, but they just couldn’t get the best out of him.
Bellingham has been constantly performing at a top-level in the Bundesliga as well as in the Champions League, and Jurgen Klopp is a keen admirer of his talent.
Manchester City and other Premier League clubs could also be interested, but it appears that the Reds are leading the chase at the moment.
