Liverpool must win the race to sign Villarreal talent Alex Baena
Liverpool is one of the clubs reportedly keen on Villarreal youngster Alex Baena, and they must not miss out on him.
The likes of Manchester City and Arsenal are also keen to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, as per Spanish newspaper Sport.
The youngster has impressed heavily for the Yellow Submarines, and Villarreal are looking to tie him down on a new deal. Liverpool must move ahead of others, and try to lure him to Anfield.
The Reds have a wealth of talent in midfield, but Jurgen Klopp needs to make some changes next summer.
The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner are likely to depart, and there will be room for new additions.
Curtis Jones, likewise, has failed to live up to his potential, and he could be sent out on loan as well.
Klopp is building a team centred on youth and experience. There is Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho who brings youth and energy to the star-studded side.
Could Baena be the next in the line?
He impressed heavily last season on loan at Girona. The dazzling left-footed midfielder played in all 38 games and scored five times. His performances have helped the Catalan club win promotion back to the top flight.
This season, the stats are even better. He has scored six goals already in 10 matches in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side, which is really impressive considering most of his appearances have come from the bench.
It has been suggested that any potential club will need to pay a fee of around £30.5m for his signature.
The money is not an issue for Liverpool, but Klopp always wants to bring someone if he feels necessary. Baena looks like a cracking young talent, and the Reds should look to snap him up in the summer.
