Liverpool send teenager Tyler Morton on loan to Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers have secured their second signing of the summer in the shape of Liverpool teenager Tyler Morton on a season-long loan.
The 19-year-old made nine appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s senior team last season but the Reds now want him to go and play much more regularly and have therefore come to an agreement with the Lancashire club.
Jon Dahl Tomasson has been thrown into the deep end by Rovers having tken charge rather late into the off-season which has delayed new recruits at Ewood Park.
They did make a good start to their Championship campaign on Saturday (30 July), however, with a 1-0 win at home to Queens Park Rangers thanks to a stunning long-range strike from Lewis Travis.
Morton will be available for selection when Blackburn travel to South Wales to take on Swansea City next Saturday (6 August).
Ideal
This is the perfect example of how to manage the career progression of a young player and Liverpool have proven very good at this over recent years.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones have already cemented themselves within Klopp’s squad but Morton is still some way away from being able to hold his own on a regular basis at that high of a level.
So a loan move is therefore necesaary after getting a taste for senior football at Anfield and there won’t be many better teams to go and play for the Blackburn.
Rovers have a gun striker in Ben Brereton Diaz who will put his chances away if you provide them and they have a good chance of reaching the playoffs with a good run and Morton’s presence will only enhance that.
You have to wonder what Klopp will be thinking if Morton returns to Merseyside next summer with a Championship medal wrapped around his neck.
