Liverpool starlet Dominic Corness dubbed 'The Wand' as he shines for U21s

Dominic Corness is an up-and-coming star at Liverpool, and if his nickname is anything to go by, fans at Anfield should be excited.

Liverpool may well have another talented youngster coming through their ranks, with 19-year-old Corness knocking on the door of the first team at Anfield.

Corness plies his trade as a midfielder, and his wonderful technical ability has earned him the nickname “The Wand” among his teammates at Melwood.

Corness, who has been with Liverpool since he was five, has played a huge part in the side’s Under-21s squad this season and was handed the armband by coach Barry Lewtas for the side’s recent victory over Ajax in the Youth League.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lewtas piled the praise on his young star’s all-rounded ability in the heart of midfield., stating he “controls the game”, “can break the game up” and “has every pass in his locker”.

It’s easier to understand Corness’ style of play once he mentions his footballing idol – none other than Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara.

The Spanish international is a fan favourite at Anfield for wowing Liverpool fans with his awe-inspiring technical ability since he swapped Munich for Merseyside.

Thiago’s abilities have clearly rubbed off on Corness, who is now vying for a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s side to play alongside his idol.

With the Reds struggling in midfield particularly, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that Klopp gives Corness a chance to shine this season.

Jordan Henderson and James Milner look leggy and off-form, while Thiago, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t seem to stay off the treatment table.

Should Corness keep up his superb form with the youth squads, then perhaps “The Wand” could be performing magic at Anfield sooner rather than later.
