Neco Williams must leave Liverpool after Calvin Ramsay transfer confirmed

Neco Williams must leave Liverpool for the sake of his career after a major transfer development at Anfield.

The 21-year-old featured just eight times across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2021/22 campaign with the majority of those appearances being short cameos from the bench.

With Liverpool announcing the signing of Calvin Ramsay, the Welshman’s game time isn’t likely to increase in the 2022/23 campaign.

The 18-year-old made the £6.5million from Aberdeen to Merseyside and has been identified as the long-term rival for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to a Sky Sports report on 19 June.

Williams has been given his chance at Anfield but he seems to be just under the level required to be a mainstay in the domestic cup doubler winners’ team.

Unless there is a monumental shift in either player’s form, Ramsay looks to be already ahead of the Welshman in Liverpool’s pecking order and given the fact that he is a few years younger, the Scot massively has the upper hand.

With a plethora of clubs interested in signing the defender, he must utilise his options. Newly promoted to the Premier League Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Fulham – where he spent the second half of last season on loan – and PSV Eindhoven have all made offers, according to the Daily Mail [20 June].

The safest option would be for him to join the west Londoners having already established himself in the squad and worked well with Marco Silva.

With that being said, any Premier League club where he can get minutes would be a good destination for the lad because at this age all he needs to do is play, learn and develop.

The Welshman will want to hit his stride next season – especially with the 2022 Qatar World Cup at the end of the year.
