Liverpool and Manchester City eye move for Villarreal youngster Alex Baena
Liverpool and Manchester City are eyeing a move for Villarreal’s young talent Alex Baena, according to a report from Spanish newspaper Sport.
Apart from these two clubs, the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are vying for his signature.
The 21-year-old forward has impressed heavily for the Yellow Submarines, and the Premier League clubs will need to spend big to land him.
The youngster spent the last season on loan at Girona where he made a strong impact.
He played in all 38 games and scored five times. His performances have helped the Catalan club win promotion to back to the top flight.
This season, he has maintained the same form. The youngster has scored six goals already in 10 matches in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side.
The stats get all the more impressive considering most of his appearances have come from the bench.
The report suggests that any potential club will need to pay a fee of around £30.5m for his signature, which is his release clause.
Liverpool have a wealth of attacking options, but there’s always room for young talents as Jurgen Klopp will need to freshen up his squad from time to time.
At the moment, the Reds’ priority will be to sign a midfielder. Villarreal will be keen to tie him down on a long term deal, but the situation can change in the summer.
