Man City work on deal to sign Anderlecht defender Sergio Gomez - David Ornstein
Manchester City are interested in signing 21-year-old Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Spanish youth international, who is said to have been scouted extensively by the Citizens, is now getting close to a move to the Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola’s team had been reportedly targeting Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, but seemingly have been put off the club’s £50m valuation of the defender, and have pursued other targets. [Daily Mail]
Ornstein said: “Manchester City are in negotiations to sign 21-year-old Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez.
Gomez, who City have scouted extensively, is viewed as a high-potential development talent and their move for the Spaniard is irrespective of any other targets for the position at first team level.

Gomez came through the youth ranks at Barcelona and left the Spanish giants to join Borussia Dortmund in a permanent deal in 2018.
However, after a loan spell in the Segunda Division with SD Huesca, he left the German club to join Anderlecht in the summer of 2021, where he established himself as a promising left-back.
The former Barcelona full-back, who can also be deployed in an attacking midfielder role, has now made 49 appearances for the club scoring seven goals and providing an impressive 15 assists.
He has also become a Spain Under-21 international making nine appearances for the team and scoring six goals during that time.
Gomez is clearly a talented player and if City can get this deal over the line, there is no one better in world football to continue your football education than Guardiola.
Time will tell if Gomez’s signing will affect City’s pursuit of Cucurella, but for now, they remain focused on completing a deal for Gomez.
