Manchester City has confirmed the signing of Everton talent Emilio Lawrence, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Fans of youth football will know what a big signing this is for the Citizens and it speaks volumes about their current recruitment system.

Romano describes Lawrence as another “gem” for the City academy and confessed that many clubs were interested in signing the Scottish youngster.

“Official, confirmed. Manchester City sign Scottish talent Emilio Lawrence as he joins from Everton where he was also part of Under-23 team,” said Romano via his Twitter with the announcement picture shared too.

“Another gem for City Academy after long negotiations – many clubs were keen on signing Lawrence but 2004-born talent wanted MCFC.”

This move is an absolute statement of intent from Premier League juggernauts City and highlights the pulling power they have in the transfer market.

The teenager made his debut last season for Everton U23s at just 16 years old and went on to play four games on the wing for the Merseyside club.

He featured primarily for the U18s alongside that, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 18 appearances for them.

City may look to test Lawrence in the Premier League 2 straight away, they currently lie 2 points off the top spot, chasing London club Arsenal.

Lawrence is a highly-promising youngster and it’s surprising that Everton let him go, especially seeing as he had been at the club since 2014.

He has missed three months of action due to the deal however and will be looking forward to getting back amongst it in one of youth football’s best setups.
