Manchester City starlet Cole Palmer courted by Borussia Dortmund - report

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund want to sign Manchester City starlet Cole Palmer on a season-long loan, according to The Sun.

The 20-year-old has had limited game time at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola but he was among the top scorers of Premier League 2 last season for the club’s Under-23s side.

A scintillating performance in the FA Cup against Swindon Town and a goal against Club Brugge in the Champions League helped his cause but the wealth of talent at City has made progression difficult.

Dortmund, therefore, want to bring him to Signal Iduna Park for the 2022-23 season having already helped Jadon Sancho go from Etihad reject to £75million man as he moved to Manchester United last summer.

Guardiola, though, is not keen on letting him leave on loan as other European clubs lurk to sign him before the transfer deadline on 1 September.

Stagnate

Palmer will know as well as anyone that for him to progress his career further, he has to start playing senior football and unless there are multiple exits from the Etihad, he isn’t going to get that in the Premier League.

He has to move somewhere else and play for the season and Dortmund could be the perfect place for him with Jude Bellingham, another England international, already settled in the Bundesliga.

Manchester City can be as stubborn as they like but players still hold all of the cards in the modern game and if the 20-year-old wants to leave, he will likely get his wish.

Palmer may even have one eye on the World Cup in November and if he lights up the German top flight, he could find himself alongside Bellingham on the plane to Qatar.

One thing is for certain, he won’t be with Gareth Southgate’s side if he stays as backup to Riyad Mahrez in Manchester for the season.

In other Manchester City news, Kinetic Academy founder, Harry Hudson, is not convinced that this City youngster will ever make his debut for the first team.
