It is understood that the Argentine has a buyout clause of £20.6million if any club wants to sign him this summer.
Signing a midfielder has been a priority for the Red Devils for a number of months, but it is imperative given the number of players on their way out.
Nemanja Matic has already announced he’s leaving while Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and even Jesse Lingard are expected to follow him on his way out.
Manchester City have a similar situation with Fernandinho set to leave once his deal runs out in June.
He has been a reliable lynchpin for Pep Guardiola’s side and will certainly be a huge miss once he leaves.
While Rodri has done well in the first team, the City boss would surely want backups as he enjoys rotating and keeping a number of his squad players fresh and ready to spring into action.
It remains to be seen if the clubs will be willing to match his steep asking price as he still hasn’t played in a top five league and the lack of experience makes him a huge gamble.
In other Manchester City news, the club are keen on handing a contract extension to Phil Foden.
