Erik Ten Hag wants Hugo Ekitike at Manchester United - report

Manchester United have made an enquiry for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike over a potential summer transfer, according to a report by ESPN.

Ekitike was subject to heavy interest during the January transfer window from Newcastle United, before ultimately rejecting a move on deadline day to stay in France [The Sun].

Now he has been linked with a summer move away, with his chairman admitting that he is likely to leave the club and Manchester United have made their first move.

According to reliable journalist Julien Laurens, Ekitike is expected to be available for as little as €15m (£12.8m) but United face competition from Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a decision on where he wants to move next according to the report but Ralf Rangnick has shortlisted him as a target for the future as a rising star.

Talent

There is clearly a lot of talent in the legs of the young French forward, but Man United will have their work cut out to get a deal done for him this summer.

Bayern Munich are obviously one of the very best teams in the world and their track record for developing young players is flawless, while Arsenal would be able to provide Champions League football.

But with Man United targeting him it shows a quick change in direction for their recruitment process, having previously targeted top names and established players.

It would represent somewhat of a bargain though considering Newcastle were linked with a bid of almost double the price being touted now.

Ekitike has scored nine goals in 21 appearances in Ligue 1 this season and is capable of playing on both wings or through the middle as a number nine, so his versatility could solve several issues at Old Trafford.
