Facundo Pellistri to have pre-season at Manchester United - report
Manchester United will give Facundo Pellistri the chance to impress during pre-season after his loan spell at Alaves, according to journalist Sebas Giovanelli [June 11].
The 20-year-old Uruguayan winger joined United from Penarol after Diego Forlan gave former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a recommendation in the summer of 2020.
After spending the last 18 months on loan at La Liga club Alaves though, he will now get the chance to impress new manager Erik Ten Hag during pre-season at Carrington as he searches for regular game time.
Pellistri is currently on international duty with Uruguay but according to the report by Giovanelli on his personal Twitter account, he will return to training with United after a short holiday.
Pellistri is yet to make a senior first-team appearance for the Red Devils, but did feature and shine for the Under-23’s before his initial loan spell in the 2020/21 season.
Chance
Ten Hag is a big fan of young players and has no problem using them regularly if they’re able to perform to the standard that he wants.
The club are reportedly in the market for an attacker to help ease the load on Cristiano Ronaldo, and Pellistri’s direct and energetic style is something that could fit in well.
If he fails to impress during the pre-season spell though then it seems as though his agents will be pushing for another exit, with another loan deal possible.
He is currently under contract at Old Trafford until 2025 so there is plenty of time for him to grow and become a first-team player, but there is also plenty of leverage there if United want to sell him on and make some money.
Clubs should be on the lookout for how this goes, because a direct, pacy winger with a good end product is always a good thing to have and he could represent a bargain in the summer.
