Manchester United and Crystal Palace lead race for Malcolm Ebiowei - Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United and Crystal Palace are leading the race for Derby winger Malcolm Ebiowei, according to Fabrizio Romano [June 13].

Ebiowei joined the Rams last summer after leaving Rangers, and made his first-team debut under Wayne Rooney as the cash-strapped Championship club suffered relegation to League One.

He is now set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of his contract next month, and it’s two Premier League sides who lead the race according to the most recent update.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano said; “Manchester United and Crystal Palace are leading the race to sign Derby County’s Malcolm Ebiowei, talented striker born in 2003.

“AS Monaco asked for him too but he’s expected to stay in Premier League – Man Utd and Palace are leading the race.”

Chase

Ebiowei made his senior debut for the Rams and stood out as a pacy, direct and impressively talented youngster who was fearless despite the position Derby were in.

Their inevitable relegation after a 21-point deduction meant there was little pressure on them to get results, and the 18-year-old showed why Rooney was a big fan of his.

United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have always kept a close eye on talented youngsters, while Crystal Palace have shown a new love for young starlets since Patrick Vieira came in.

Realistically Ebiowei would find regular first-team football difficult to come by during the 2022/23 season with either club, but it’s about where he could best develop beyond that.

A loan move is likely, but the two Premier League sides are battling it out to convince him that they’re the ideal club to help him progress and develop into a top player.
