Manchester United hold talks with representatives of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber - report
Manchester United have reportedly held talks with the representatives of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber ahead of a potential summer move.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are seriously interested in bringing the 20-year-old to Old Trafford.
Bayern Munich also enquired about him but it seems that Erik ten Hag wants to take the Dutch defender with him to his new club.
Via his personal Twitter account, Plettenberg wrote, “Update #Timber: #FCBayern inquired about him but it is said that the 20 y/o could join Ten Hag to #MUFC! Talks with his management have taken place. Manchester United is seriously interested.”
Good move?
Timber and ten Hag both know what each other are, having enjoyed a few years of working together.
They both achieved success at Ajax, but the Premier League is an entirely different ball game.
Forget Timber, there are no guarantees that ten Hag is the right fit for the club and things could go drastically wrong for him very soon.
That said, if the Dutchman wants to change the philosophy around the club, the best way to do that is by bringing in players he knows will deliver.
Timber is someone he would trust unconditionally to get the job done.
At 20, he’s still got plenty of time to hit his prime and would come to Old Trafford with a high resale value.
The criticism in the past at United has been that the managers aren’t backed enough so this is exactly the time to back ten Hag and let him bring in players like Timber.
In other Manchester United news, the Red Devils, Real Madrid and Manchester City are in the race to sign River Plate star Enzo Fernandez.
