Manchester United join race to sign promising Rangers youngster Jack Wylie - report

Manchester United are the latest team to show interest in signing Rangers wonderkid Jack Wylie, according to the Daily Star.

Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the 16-year-old Rangers star, with the Gunners sending chief youth scout Lee Herron to Spain earlier this season to see Wylie in action for Scotland’s Under-16s.

However, it now seems the north London side will have to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United, with the Daily Star reporting that Erik ten Hag has sent scouts to Glasgow to keep a keen eye on the youngster.

Wylie, who plies his trade at either centre-back or right-back, becomes eligible to sign a professional contract in January, with Gers desperate for him to commit his future to the Glaswegian club.

Great opportunity

Finding a young hidden gem is an exciting opportunity for any football club, and it’s not often that the youngster is then eligible to join without a transfer fee.

If United are able to fend off Arsenal with a tempting contract offer to the youngster, then the Red Devils could add a very promising defender to their ranks for the future.

With Ten Hag clearly not fancying Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford, the Dutchman is on the lookout for a right-back to provide competition for Diogo Dalot.

Wylie would of course arrive as a future prospect, but a strong first impression could see him fast-tracked through the club’s academy system and into the first team.

Ten Hag has a great record of working with youngsters during his time at Ajax, and he’s already showing his eye for talent at Old Trafford through Alejandro Garnacho. Wylie could well be the Dutchman’s next big project.
